Newly crowned Celebrity Mum of the Year Amelda Maguire believes her husband Neven helped her nab the title.

According to Amelda, Neven is her number one fan and waxes lyrical about her when holding his cookery demonstrations.

"I don't know how I would come into anyone's head to vote for. It must be Neven at all his demos saying about 'Amelda and the twins'. That's the only thing I can figure out," she said.

Amelda was named Celebrity Woman's Way & Lidl Mum of the Year 2015 at a gala luncheon in The Intercontinental hotel in Dublin.

The mum of twins Lucia and Connor (3), follows in the footsteps of outstanding mums Lisa Duffy, Blathnaid Ni Chofaigh, Lorraine Keane and Mary Kennedy.

"It was really exciting, but I was just totally shocked and just totally confused," Amelda said.

The modest mother has become a source of inspiration for women who have experienced difficulty during childbirth.

In 2012, Amelda suffered life-threatening complications when she developed the heart condition cardiomyopathy following the birth of her children.

Thankfully, Amelda made a full recovery and continues to work in the couple's MacNean House and Restaurant in Blacklion, Co. Cavan.

Maynooth native Olive Tumulty was crowned Woman's Way & Lidl Mum of the Year.

"It means a huge amount to be called Mum of the Year," she said.
