X FACTOR finalist Eoghan Quigg has been dumped from the new Louis Walsh boy band.

The Herald has learned that the 20-year-old's hopes of a second chance at a pop career are over.

Not even his biggest fan, X Factor judge Louis Walsh, could save him, revealed an insider after he failed to make the final seven shortlisted for the new group.

"The record company gets to decide who ends up in this group, not Louis," the insider told the Herald.

"It was heartbreaking for him because he knows Eoghan has all the talents needed to be a pop star."

However, the record label showing the most interest were said to have gone cold at the prospect of Quigg in the line-up. The Derry vocalist was previously dropped from a major label deal due to poor record sales.

"In this day and age, record labels don't take that kind of chance again," the insider said.

"They wanted fresh faces and Eoghan was just too well known."

DEVASTATED

The young singer was said to have been "devastated" when told the news after weeks rehearsing with the other shortlisted singers in Dublin's Academy venue.

The remaining members of the new group now might have to wait until Christmas to find out they have made the final line-up, as manager Walsh is busy in the UK doing X Factor live shows.

Meanwhile, X Factor judge Nicole Scherzinger has insisted her contestant Hannah Barrett's uncontrollable tears are part of her charm – and admitted she is a cry baby too.

The 17-year-old bakery worker has cried frequently during the audition process, and was overcome with emotion when she learned she had made it to the final.

Scherzinger said: "What's wrong with crying? I'm a cry baby too! I'm letting it out, I'm keeping it real OK?"

The contest is hotting up after weeks of pre-recorded shows, with the 12 acts taking part in the live stages of the show which begin tonight.
