Steo's parents at Ronan's special gig

THE family of tragic popstar Stephen Gately last night stepped out for one of their first public appearances since the Boyzone star's sudden death last October.

The late singer's parents and sister Michelle were invited as special guests of his bandmate Ronan Keating to attend his sell-out concert at the Grand Canal Theatre, the first event to take place at the new city centre venue.

Ronan paid a special tribute to the family during the concert, thanking them for coming along before dedicating the song In This Life to Stephen.

He went on to explain how he and his fellow Boyzone bandmates, Keith Duffy, Shane Lynch and Mikey Graham, had raised a glass to their late friend on St Patrick's Day, which would have been his 34th birthday.

"Steo's family are all here tonight, I don't want to draw attention to them but I want to thank them so much for being here," he said.

"The week we were bringing him home from Spain, which was one of the hardest of our lives, his mother asked me to sing a song at his funeral and I chose this one because we used to sing it together in our dressing room," he added.

Ronan's own wife, Yvonne Keating, was on hand to support her hubby in the audience, along with their three children.

His father and siblings were also there to cheer on the singer, watching his performance from an upstairs balcony.
