They just released their long-awaited new album last month but U2 are almost ready to complete their next one.

Bassist Adam Clayton has revealed that the band are already working hard on their next album, Songs of Experience.

"I think we've probably got 70pc of the material that we think will go onto it," he said.

"The 30pc we're missing I think we'll be able to generate relatively easily. But the amount of energy it will take to refine the perspective of those songs is hard to predict."

Clayton told Q magazine that they may consider a different way to release their next record after the band's new album - Songs of Innocence - was released online last month and gifted to iTunes users.

"Depending on how long it takes to be completed, there may be a whole new delivery method invented by then. I think we just have to wait and see," he said. "There'll be a bit of water under the bridge before we get to that point.

"But yeah, I think it would be a bit predictable to do the same thing. And y'know, the law may have changed by then and we'll have to find some other way of doing it."

In other good news for U2, their latest album has been deemed eligible for the 2015 Grammy Awards following the release of a limited number of vinyl copies for sale.

The band had planned to officially release Songs of Innocence with four additional songs on October 14 in the US but following the iTunes giveaway, a Grammy's spokesperson confirmed that it would not be eligible for the 2015 awards.

Grammy guidelines state that a record needs to be available for purchase by the cut-off date of September 30.

U2 have since released a limited number of vinyl copies of the record, ensuring that their new record meets the criteria in order to be considered for next year's Grammy Awards.

"As long as the album, be it CD, vinyl or digital, is available commercially for sale to the public by our eligibility cut-off date at a nationally recognised retailer or website, then it's eligible for consideration," a Grammy Awards spokesperson told Rolling Stone magazine.

Songs of Innocence is due to be released in Ireland on October 13 and the band have recently confirmed that they will go on tour with the new album next year.

"We're gonna start next year. We're gonna try and play the O2 and places like that, more indoors than outdoors this time, but we'll see where it takes us," Bono said.
