Hozier video Take Me to Church nominated for two MTV gongs
The song has reverberated across the globe and now the powerful video for Hozier's Take Me To Church is up for two MTV Video Music Awards.
The dramatic video has been nominated in the Best Rock Video category, with directors Brendan Canty and Conal Thomson being shortlisted for Best Direction.
Director Canty said he was "in a daze" after hearing the good news.
The Cork native said his main memory from the shoot was filming the scene in which the two men kiss beside a dam.
"Considering that the actors are both straight, I thought it might have been tough to get the power and the emotion out of the scene," he told RTE following his nomination.
"But the guys absolutely nailed the first take. It was a pretty mind-blowing performance.
"I always felt the song was special. And when we were working on the video and I saw how hard the cast and crew worked.
"Everyone believed in it and went the extra mile. It was special," he added.
