From Jedward to U2, stars come out to honour Christy

A GALAXY of music stars took to the stage of the Olympia last night in support of Aslan singer Christy Dignam.

From Jedward to U2 to Westlife's Mark Feehily, they queued up to perform Aslan tunes at A Night For Christy as the gala concert beamed around the world to pay the medical fees of the cancer-stricken singer.

Backing each singer were the members of Aslan, together 30 years and still roaring like the mythical lion of Narnia after which they took their name.

"It's been an amazing night. I can't believe I shared my songs with so many legendary Irish artists tonight. It has been a truly amazing experience and I would like to thank everyone who took part," said Christy.

Artist Guggi, a neighbour growing up in Ballymun, was MC, with help from guest presenters including long-time Aslan supporter DJ Tony Fenton, himself battling cancer, who got one of the biggest cheers of the night.

The prospect of twins Jedward singing an Aslan number had sent shivers down the spine of diehard 'Lan fans.

But their spirited version of 2001 Aslan single She's So Beautiful won over all critics.

Gavin Friday, Bressie, Danny O'Reilly, his mum Mary Black, Ryan Sheridan, Tom Dunne, Jerry Fish, Steve Wall followed, with everybody on stage at the end of the night for the finale, Crazy World.
