Eurovision star Molly Sterling puts Leaving Cert on hold as she purses her music dream
Eurovision semi-finalist Molly Sterling plans to postpone her Leaving Cert to focus on her music career instead.
The 17-year-old won't be taking the exams next June. Instead, she is going to "ride the wave" of her recent success.
However, Molly insists that taking a break from education for now does not mean that she is on holiday.
"I'm not the kind of person that will just sit there and do nothing, I've got a real compulsive mind," she said.
Tipperary girl Molly intends to learn from the best in the business.
"I want to be a sponge and just improve and play, but mainly write. What I want to do a lot of is just spend time with other musicians and learn from them."
Molly has an action- packed schedule. Over the weekend she played the Knockanstockan festival in Co Wicklow, and she will perform at Electric Picnic next month.
She was the youngest ever Irish contestant at the Eurovision Song Contest when she appeared on stage in Vienna with the song Playing with Numbers last May.
Molly said it was disappointing not to reach the final but that it was an invaluable experience.
"It felt like we had so much support but it was good to learn. You can do really well and have so much belief in what you are doing and have an amazing team around you and a good song and you can still lose," she said.
She is currently in the process of recording an EP, which is set to be released later this year.
Molly is determined that her hard work will pay off.
"I know a lot of people would say I'm only a kid how would I know what I want to do. But I know what I want and I have the facilities there," Molly said.
