Some lucky competition winners and music insiders were serenaded by Ed Sheeran in Whelan's last night.

The Thinking Out Loud singer jetted into Dublin yesterday afternoon ahead of his two sold-out concerts at Croke Park this week.

He spent the afternoon at the famous Windmill Lane studios before heading to Whelan's.

The 25 fans won a competition with Australian station Radio Nova and have been flown around the world to see the famous singer, already attending gigs in Dubai and London.

They were joined by just 40 other industry insiders for the intimate gig.

Duetted

The 24-year-old is known for his love of the Dublin venue and chose to hold his VH1 Storytellers gig there in January. Ed has also previously performed gigs at the Ruby Sessions in Doyle's bar.

Last September, when he was promoting his album X, he played to a crowd of just 80 people.

He performed for three hours and duetted with his cousin Laura Sheeran before having a few drinks with fans and the bar staff.

It is believed the Don't! singer will be meeting more competition winners at a private meet-and-greet in the city centre tomorrow afternoon. Meanwhile, Kodaline are rumoured to be his surprise guests at his shows this week.
