She's a rising musical theatre star, and Dublin woman Lauryn Gaffney is hoping that the musical she wrote, called Big Shot, will be a big hit as she takes it to the States.
Lauryn (23), from Malahide, will fly to San Diego this Sunday with more than 20 cast and crew members to perform the tragic love story in the city's Fringe Festival.
With no official funding or sponsorship, the aspiring stars raised €40,000 to make the journey to the US after they were offered a place in the line-up.
"This has been our focus for a long time. We didn't get any funding - we raised all our funds through doing little events such as coffee mornings and things like that," Lauryn told the Herald.
As well as getting the chance to perform before international audiences, Lauryn is hoping the legal drama will catch the eye of Broadway executives.
Dream
"That's the dream. At the start I just thought it would be amazing to get into the Fringe in the first place, but it's such an opportunity," she said.
However, while last-minute preparations and rehearsals are under way, Lauryn has admitted that Big Shot has faced a few hurdles.
"A few nights ago we had to do a 14-hour rehearsal because we found out the festival only allows shows to be one-our long and our musical was two-and-a-half hours long," she said. "It'll all come together, it wouldn't be art without drama."
