Arcade Fire signed up to set Punchestown alight

ARCADE Fire are the latest top act to be named as a headliner for this summer's Oxegen festival.

The Herald can reveal that the Grammy-nominated band with a string of hits under their belt will be the latest high profile act to tread the boards at Punchestown Racecourse.

The band will be touring Europe for the first time in three years as they have just been announced as the latest band performing in July.

Arcade Fire are famed for their high-octane live performances and their last two 20,000-capacity shows in Phoenix Park sold out in a matter of minutes.

It was also announced this morning that Fatboy Slim has also been added to the official Oxegen line up following his sold-out performance in Marlay Park last summer.

This year's Oxegen festival will feature some of the biggest names in music, with rap sensations Jay-Z, Eminem and the Black Eyed Peas as some of the attractions.

Other renowned acts performing this summer include Grammy award-winning singer John Mayer, Paolo Nutini, Florence and the Machine, Faithless and Stereophonics.

One of the most anticipated acts will once again be The Prodigy, who will also be playing after their hugely successful set at the 2008 show.

The stellar line-up continues with The Temper Trap, Newton Faulkner and David Guetta all confirmed to appear at Oxegen this July.

Up-and-coming act Ellie Goulding will also be treating guests this summer, as well as seasoned performer Calvin Harris.

Other rising stars to appear include Mumford and Sons, Broken Social Scene and Two Door Cinema Club from Bangor in Co Down.

This year's event takes place from Friday, July 9, to Sunday, July 11 at the Co Kildare venue, and tickets will go on sale March 12.
