The news that millions of UFC fans have been waiting for has finally been confirmed - a date has been set for the epic showdown between Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather .
The multi-division boxing world champion confirmed he will take on Dublin UFC champion McGregor (28) in a bout that could be worth more than €600m.
Both men confirmed the news on their Twitter accounts, with Mayweather (40) tweeting the date of Saturday, August 26 in Las Vegas for the hotly anticipated match.
Mayweather (41), who retired in September 2015 after winning all 49 of his pro fights, will face a mixed martial arts fighter who has never been in a scheduled 12-round fight, at the MGM Grand arena in Vegas.
It will take place in a boxing ring and be governed by boxing rules.
Mayweather wrote the words "It's Official!" alongside the post which contained photos of him and the Dubliner.
McGregor, who recently welcomed his first child - a boy named Conor Jnr - with his partner Dee, also posted on his social media account that the fight will be going ahead.
"The fight is on," wrote the Crumlin star.
An official announcement of the much-hyped fight was expected to be made this morning.
McGregor signed his part of the deal last month to take on Mayweather in the big match.
"The McGregor side is done, I'm starting to work on the Mayweather side now," UFC president Dana White said during a recent TV interview.
"I've got one side done. If we can come to a deal with Mayweather, the fight will happen."
