Tinseltown was in party mode this week as the Golden Globes kicked off Awards Season. And the Irish contingent were certainly living it up.

U2 frontman Bono had enjoyed several stiff drinks during the awards ceremony which left him on edge when accepting the gong for Best Original Song

"I've had a couple of martinis," Bono said. "All I had to remember when I got up was not to use an expletive because the last time we won a Globe I did and it really upset things."

"And there is nothing cool about using an expletive on live TV – I knew that.

"This time all I was thinking was 'Whatever you do – don't say f**k'. But with Irish people it's exuberance," he explained.

"This was a big win for us – our whole life was in this. How could we write a song that would live up to Mandela? The answer is you couldn't.

"We couldn't, we weren't able to do it. But we could write a love song – a complicated, screwed up, messed up love song."

While Bono waxed lyrical about Mandela and his globe, across town Michael Fassbender and Sherlock star Benedict Cumberbatch were throwing some serious moves on the dance floor.

Kerryman Fassbender looked cool as a cucumber as he shuffled around with a drink in hand and donning a pair of classic black Ray-Bans.

Colin Farrell and his sister Claudine attended the ceremony together; Claudine looked chic in a strapless black dress and Colin looked dapper in a smart suit.

And pop star Samantha Mumba also got in on the glitz and glam of the Globes.
