SHE may be an established artist who performs all over the world, but even professionals such Imelda May suffer stage fright in the beginning.

The mother of one, who will turn 40 this summer, admitted she forgot the lyrics at her first proper gig at Bruxelles bar in Dublin. The Liberties-born rockabilly singer was just 16.

"I sang the verse about five times, but got a big cheer at the end because people figured out what happened," she said.

AMBITIONS

Imelda will star in her own TV programme, The Imelda May Show, the pilot of which will be broadcast this weekend on RTE.

"I have absolutely no longing or ambitions to be a presenter, but when I heard about this music show I was very interested," she said.

"Other Voices is terrific, but only runs for a short period of time. There are so many great bands in Ireland that need a platform to get."
