I will beat cancer a second time, vows brave DJ Tony

DJ TONY FENTON is determined to beat cancer again after doctors told him the illness had returned.

THE Today FM broadcaster (51), who overcame the disease two years ago when he had his prostate removed in Germany, has been told it has appeared again on two of his internal organs.

But Tony says he has a "sunny attitude" and is determined to keep positive.

A lump on his hand which turned black and blue within a day was the warning sign. "They tested it, confirmed it was melanoma and, after tests, discovered it had spread to other parts of my body.

"It's on two of my internal organs. When the doctor told me I just had this awful white noise in my ears. I couldn't believe it was back again.

"The fear comes right over you. You can't hear anything."

Tony is now undergoing intense chemotherapy – with four full courses in one week out of every three. Ironically he was launching the Shave or Dye campaign on Today FM to help conquer cancer when the doctor called him.

"I couldn't believe it but I went ahead and did my show and it took my mind off things to a certain degree."

He said speaking out might help other men speak about cancer. "Men need to talk about these things, especially the prostate. A lot of guys are like ostriches."
