I know Katie can never be my girl, says Britain's Got Talent hero Ryan

THE Dublin teen who's tipped to win Britain's Got Talent has accepted he and his love interest will never be an item.

Speaking to the Herald this morning, talented Ryan O'Shaughnessy (19) has said he's "fine" with the situation between him and long-term pal Katie Keegan (19).

"It's grand between us. We are great mates and we're going to stay friends and that's the main thing. I don't want to ruin a great friendship," he said.

He also revealed he only got managed to get a few hours sleep after he topped the poll in the voting in his heat of the semi-finals last night. As well as meeting Jedward and Louis Walsh on the programme, he was still buzzing from all the excitement from the reaction to his song First Kiss.

"I'm a bit tired because I got in late into the hotel and then I was up at 5am as I've got some interviews this morning. It's just crazy what's happened. It really hasn't sunk in yet."

The DIT music student wowed judges for a second time with another original song that was inspired by his unrequited love for the young beauty he took to his debs.

And he was more than a little embarrassed after programme host Stephen Mulhern decided to ring her up live on air during Britain's Got More Talent. When asked to spill the beans on what the story was between the pair of them, Katie eventually admitted that she was not on the market and currently has a boyfriend.

She was the original inspiration for the No Name song that propelled Ryan into the spotlight when he first performed it for judges, but was too shy to admit on television who he wrote it for.

Stunning

But in a boost for the star, Katie has revealed how proud she is of him after his stunning performance last night.

She said: "It's official, I have a famous best friend," before posting up more pictures of her enjoying a night out with the singer, whom she first met at Portmarnock Community College.

They have been friends for more than six years after meeting in the Dublin school. But Ryan realised he had fallen in love when he took Katie to their school debs last September. He said: "When I saw her in that dress, I thought she looked beautiful."
