He's currently riding high in the US charts - and 'man of the moment' Hozier is in line for an MTV award.
A new "socially focused" award for songs that carry a message is to be presented for the first time at the MTV Europe Music Awards in Glasgow next month.
The "best song with a message" category has been created to "recognise songs that have an empowering impact on young people, tackling important issues they care about and inspiring them to have a social conscience", the music channel said.
Take Me To Church by Hozier, Beyonce's Pretty Hurts, Arcade Fire song We Exist, We Are Here by Alicia Keys, and Meghan Trainor's All About That Bass are in the running for the award with songs that address gender identity, violence and self-acceptance, according to MTV.
US rapper Nicki Minaj is to host the star-studded ceremony, with Katy Perry heading the nominations.
