How quickly they forget

FAME can be a fickle game – and those queueing up to audition for Louis Walsh's new boyband should know.

Just how fickle we found out last week when Louis was given a quick-fire quiz on his career by Larry Gogan on 2fm.

Q. What were the first names of the Carter Twins?

A. "Stephen and... I forget the other guy's name, but I know they were twins," answered Louis.

Managed by Walsh for three years, twins Stephen and Tony Carter once toured with Boyzone and scooped best-newcomer award at the Smash Hits Awards before parting from the Mayo man in 1999.

"It just didn't work," said Louis, who added that he remained on good terms with the brothers.

Louis jets off to Miami today for a well-deserved break before starting the next series of X Factor.

* Elsewhere, the Sheridan brothers could have been bank robbers.

The news comes from writer/director Peter Sheridan who revealed that when he and Jim took over the Project Arts Centre in late Seventies, the venue was so broke they considered robbing a bank.

"In the end we gave up as the IRA were hitting all the easy targets," said Peter.

With an Oscar for My Left Foot and a string of hit films, books and plays, the Sheridans now have no trouble finding funding.
