Taylor made for Trinity?

FEW are so adept at whipping up a lust-driven, hormone-fuelled frenzy quite like Taylor Lautner. Aside from his equally handsome Twilight co-star Robert Pattinson -- and perhaps, for some inexplicable reason, that Bieber abomination -- the strapping Californian teen incites adolescent pandemonium wherever he goes.

Currently one of Hollywood's hottest actors, he earned nearly $8m for his first lead role in Abduction, which despite an abysmal script and oak-like performances, raked in a worldwide gross of just under $100m. Seems Taylor's tanned torso is more than enough for the tweens and their 'chaperoning' mothers.

Success aside, however, Lautner admits he's looking for a little respite from the Tinseltown machine and readers, brace yourselves -- he could be doing it right here in Dublin. Asked if he's considered taking time out for university, the heartthrob responded with what can only be described as every Irish Twi-hard's dream come true.

"I'll definitely go to college, and I'd like it to be sooner rather than later," Lautner reveals to the Herald in an airy suite at London's Claridges Hotel. "Maybe not in the States, just because I don't think it would be the easiest to maintain a low profile, so possibly abroad. Could be great to go to Ireland. A friend from high school went to the college in Dublin, like in the middle of the city, what's it called?" "Trinity", the Herald interjects. "Yeah, Trinity, that's it! He really liked it there, said everyone was so friendly."

The hunky 19-year-old, who plays werewolf Jacob Black in the vampire franchise, will certainly be guaranteed a very friendly welcome but he may be under a slightly false impression of our unquenchable appetite for celebrity.

"I don't think people in Ireland care much about the Hollywood thing," he remarks. "So it'd be great to walk around and not have people coming after you, asking for autographs or pictures. Don't get me wrong, I'm blessed with my career and I'm happy to do that stuff but I guess it might be nice to have a little break from the craziness."

Could be a while before he gets any free time, however, as the bulky actor, noticeably leaner in the flesh yet undeniably hunky in a tight-fitting black V-neck sweater, is currently criss-crossing the globe promoting the penultimate chapter in the Twilight Saga, Breaking Dawn Part 1, which sees star-crossed lovers, Edward and Bella finally tie the knot. Forget Wills and Kate, this is the wedding of the year.

Filming has already wrapped on the final chapter, Breaking Dawn Part 2, released at the end of next year. So how does Taylor feel knowing the Twilight journey is coming to an end?

"It's so sad," he smiles, visibly unsettled on the subject, "The toughest moment for me was the second last day of shooting because that was my last scene with Kristen and Rob. It was an emotional scene, so that really didn't help, and it was tough and it's a very weird feeling to be done filming. It just felt like, 'Oh, are we really done? No more movies, no more Jacob?' It's all very unsettling because I feel like I've grown up with these guys and grown up on these movies myself. I've become so close to Kristen and Rob and everyone really, over the years, so I'll miss them a lot. Saying that though, we did a seven-month shoot together for the last two Twilight movies, so maybe I've had my fill of them for a while," he laughs. "No, I'm kidding, I actually love doing the promo now. Means we can all hang out again for one last time."

So what can disciples of Team Jacob expect from their favourite lycanthrope in Breaking Dawn Part 1? "Well he's still completely hung up on Bella. He's still incredibly jealous of Edward, more so, and even more incredibly hot-headed. He matures a little, but that's not necessarily a good thing. He's just so angry with everything, everyone."

After becoming an international sex symbol overnight, Lautner, who's been linked to country star Taylor Swift and Abduction co-star, Lily Collins, has had to endure intense scrutiny into his personal life and like Pattinson, finds it difficult being mobbed on the street by over-zealous fans.

"I wouldn't say I get upset about it, but it does bug me sometimes. But then, I asked for this. I wanted this life and I can just bow out if I choose," he says. "I mean, it does get frustrating but during that frustration you say, 'Okay. Why am I frustrated? I'm doing what I love.'

'Sometimes you really just want to go do whatever you want to do and can't because there's a hundred people camped outside your hotel."

Lautner famously gained and maintained 30lb of rippling muscle in preparation for Jacob's physical transformation in the movies. Now that Twilight is over, will he keep up the strict regime?

"My workout is pretty intense, which I don't mind at all, its got amazing results which I'm so happy with. But I wouldn't mind a break from it for a while. Eat what I like and work on getting a gut."

The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1 is out November 18
