Madonna's back behind the camera

superstar Madonna is going back behind the camera with a romantic tale set on an African island.

The singer, inset, is directing Ade: A Love Story, based on the debut novel of Rebecca Walker, daughter of The Colour Purple writer Alice Walker.

The Queen of Pop's last directing effort was in 2011 with WE – a film based around the relationship between King Edward VIII and American divorcee Wallis Simpson.

The movie was panned by critics and flopped at the box office, making little more than £500,000 (€600,000).

Walker confirmed the news with a message online saying: "It's official."

The film is to be produced by Bruce Cohen, who shared the best film Oscar for American Beauty and has worked on award-winning movies such as Milk.

Madonna, who will appoint a screenwriter to adapt the book, also directed an indie comedy, Filth And Wisdom, in 2008.
