Demi Moore has spoken of her "absolute shock" following the death of a man at her home.

Yesterday news broke that the body of a 21-year-old man had been found at the star's property in California. Edenilson Steven Valle had been one of the guests at a party held by Demi's assistant, with the 52-year-old now speaking of her devastation over the news.

"I am in absolute shock," the actress said in a statement.

"I was out of the country travelling to meet my daughters for a birthday celebration when I got the devastating news."

Edenilson was found at 5.30am local time in the swimming pool at the back of the house. At the moment details about what happened haven't been confirmed, but TMZ has alleged he slipped and fell but didn't know how to swim.

None of Demi's family, including her daughters Rumer, Tallulah and Scout, were at home at the time.

"The loss of a child is an unthinkable tragedy, and my heart goes out to this young man's family and friends," Demi continued via her representative Heidi Lopata.

"I ask that you please respect privacy of all concerned during this sensitive time."

TMZ claims no foul play is being suspected, citing law enforcement sources. It's claimed Demi's assistant and some of their friends left the property at some point, and found Edenilson dead when they returned.

No further details are known at the moment.
