ACTRESS Helena Bonham Carter has split from her partner of 13 years, director Tim Burton. The couple have separated "amicably", according to Ms Bonham Carter's representative.

The quirky duo lived in separate, neighbouring houses in Belsize Park, London, but remained in a loving relationship for 13 years after they met in 2001 on the set of The Planet Of The Apes.

The couple have a son Billy (11) and daughter Nell (7) together and collaborated on several high-profile movies. But a representative confirmed that they have finished their relationship and asked for privacy.

"They separated amicably earlier this year," Ms Bonham Carters' spokesperson said.

Although they frequently worked together, Burton previously admitted they had a turbulent relationship on set, especially while making Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street in 2007.

"We've survived as a couple, but it hasn't always been easy. Sweeney Todd was the worst; definitely the worst. But then I found out she was pregnant with Nell and it kind of all made sense," he said.
