Fassbender's Frank already a hit in US

IT only opened in one cinema over the weekend, but Michael Fassbender's movie Frank has already been declared a hit at the US box office.

The film made almost €12,000 over its opening three days in America, a huge boost for an independent feature.

"We're really delighted, that's a very strong opening for a Sundance film and it was only in one cinema in New York," spokesperson Nell Roddy told the Herald.

Frank will now head to Hollywood and open in LA on Friday, before being rolled out across the country.

Kerry native Michael was not the only Irish face on the silver screen over the weekend.

Brendan Gleeson's latest film Calvary, directed by John Michael McDonagh and also starring Chris O'Dowd brought in €299,000 across 17 screens, while Wicklow man Jack Reynor's Transformers: Age of Extinction raked in another €150,000 - adding to its €200m pot.
