The Gathering: homeward bound

RTE1, 7pm In this new series, famous Irish people who live abroad return to their home towns to help the communities prepare for Gathering Ireland 2013. Florida-based comedian Brendan Grace travels back to the Liberties, where he meets Lord Mayor Naoise O Muiri and the local people planning reunions next year as part of the event.


Ian Hislop's Stiff Upper Lip -- An Emotional History of Britain

BBC2, 9pm Hislop (left) is the ideal person to present this series exploring how the British have expressed their feelings throughout history.

He begins by looking back at 19th-century Britain, where he believes the idea of a 'stiff upper lip' first came to prominence. He also contrasts the characters of Admiral Nelson and the Duke of Wellington.

BBC1, 9pm In the store-set period drama starring Sarah Lancashire, a wealthy customer's erratic spending concerns the staff but pleases Moray. Meanwhile, Miss Audrey is tasked with leading the Miss Paradise Pink promotion.
