Claire vows to come back on air after summer success on the Marian Finucane show

RTE presenter Claire Byrne is handing the Saturday morning radio reigns back to Marian Finucane after her astounding success filling in for the veteran broadcaster.

But we’ll be hearing a lot more of the popular journalist over the airwaves.

The Daily Show co-host has spent the past nine weeks covering for Finucane on her weekend morning slot.

Reaction to the job she did was uniformly positive - and she’s now set to be a permanent midweek radio voice.

Claire told the Herald that being a summer stand-in has given her the itch to go back on air full-time. |The Laois woman spent four years anchoring her own breakfast show on Newstalk, and with the great response received from Marian's avid listeners, it's no surprise that she’s ready to put her headphones on again.

Working on the second most popular current affairs show in Ireland this summer has been great, she said.

“I really enjoyed covering for Marian. It's such a well-established show with a great team behind it and a pleasure to present,” she said.

She will now take long-term control of RTE Radio One's political and current affairs programme, Late Debate, despite her already-hectic schedule on tv with The Daily Show.

“I'm taking a break at the moment before I'm back on RTE Radio One with Late Debate at 10pm on weeknights,” she revealed.

She previously anchored the political programme in the run up to the election earlier this year.

At the time Claire had revealed that she was looking forward to getting her voice back out on the airwaves, after moving to television with The Daily Show.

“It'll be nice to be back on the airwaves again after a five-month break from radio,” she explained earlier this year.
