When you think of world record attempts, cramming hundreds of James Joyce imposters into one town doesn't come to mind. But that is exactly what the good people of Dun Laoghaire are attempting to do on Sunday, when they hope to break the world record for having the largest gathering of James Joyces ever to have taken place in the one location.

It will be one of the highlights of the Bloomsday Family Festival this weekend.

This year, the entire Lower George's St will close to make way for an alfresco Bloomsday breakfast. A Vintage Street market, vintage amusements and 10ft-tall, vintage-clad puppets reciting from Ulysses will provide entertainment. Visit www.dunlaoghaire.ie.

www Heavy metal jewellery at the ready as American hardcore band Trash Talk get ready to hit Dublin. The punk group have announced details of a headline show in Whelans on July 12.

The band will be joined by special guests Wound and Vacant on the night. Tickets are €12.50 and are on sale from Ticketmaster outlets.

www Cork will celebrate New York style next week as a new eatery opens in honour of the Big Apple.

Cork International Airport will mark the opening of The New Yorker Bar and Bistro next Thursday, June 20, with a party.

Lucky guests at the opening will be treated to a New York-themed night of food, drink and blues.

www Alison Conneely (left), a young Irish fashion designer, has a bright future ahead of her after scooping this year's Crafts Council of Ireland Future Makers Awards & Support programme.

Alison, who draws inspiration from her native Connemara, was awarded with €23,000.

The programme rewards the next generation of Irish creative makers, helping them to develop an exciting future in the craft and design industry.
