Berry and Cowell battle for top judge gong

Mary Berry (inset) will take on Simon Cowell in a bid to find the country's top TV judge at the National Television Awards (NTAs).

The organisers have come up with the new award which pitches the pair against each other at next year's ceremony.

Other names in the running include Cowell's X-Factor co-star Cheryl Fernandez-Versini and Lord Alan Sugar from The Apprentice.

Also nominated are The Voice's Will.i.am, Darcey Bussell from the Strictly Come Dancing panel, David Walliams from Britain's Got Talent and Dragon's Den Deborah Meaden.

Other new categories created for the awards includes best Skills Challenge Show which pits The Great British Bake-Off against The Apprentice and MasterChef.

The awards, hosted by Dermot O'Leary, will be shown live on ITV on January 21.
