David Beckham has been left out of the Great Britain Olympic soccer squad in an embarrassing move for the British Olympic Association. He will not be one of three eligible over-age players selected for the Games, despite the role he played in helping London secure the Games.
Beckham was a mainstay throughout the initiation stages of the London 2012 Games.
He was present in Singapore when London won the bid and was in Athens earlier this year, where he was presented with the Olympic flame.
"Everyone knows how much playing for my country has always meant to me, so I would have been honoured to have been part of this unique Team GB squad," Beckham said.
"Naturally, I am very disappointed, but there will be no bigger supporter of the team than me. I will be hoping they can win gold," he added.
