X Factor's Mary bid to boost album sales with shopping channel gig

X Factor star Mary Byrne is to appear on the home shopping channel QVC in a bid to boost sales of her new album.

The Ballyfermot singing star will perform on the multimedia retailer next Monday in a bid to get her fans to pick up the phone and purchase her new album Mine And Yours, due to be released on March 25 in Ireland.

The 51-year-old former checkout worker will be following in the footsteps of another reality TV celebrity and her idol, Susan Boyle (49), who sold tens of thousands of copies of her debut record on the multimedia retailer.

"We are delighted QVC has been chosen as Mary's first TV appearance post-X Factor, following in the footsteps of a range of music artists from Susan Boyle to Beverley Knight to Westlife who have all performed live on QVC," a spokesman for the channel told the Herald.

"We are sure our viewers will love meeting her and seeing her perform live in a more intimate studio setting and listening to her chat through her music loves and inspirations.

"It's going to be a bit different than what we did with Susan Boyle, instead of having some exclusive footage, Mary will be on the show herself.

"The QVC host will also be asking her a few questions -- there have been rumours of a phone-in session with viewers but they're incorrect.

"She will be on at 9am and after she's had a bit of a chat, she'll be singing some of her most loved songs from the X Factor, This Is A Man's World and I (Who Have Nothing) -- they're also both on the album," he added.

A well-informed source has revealed that Mary welcomed the opportunity to appear on a live show, despite critics claiming that it was a step down from the hit talent competition.

"It makes perfect sense to flog the album on a phone-in show," an insider said. "Mary's fans have already proved they like using their phones by voting her through to the X Factor semi-finals. It could go to No 1. It worked for Susan Boyle.

"Mary is really excited. She knows she's not as big as SuBo but she wouldn't mind a few of her millions."
