Wire star Idris joins fans on Harcourt St

FANS of hit series The Wire will be flocking to The Odeon on Harcourt Street tonight in the hopes of catching a glimpse of Idris Elba, who plays Stringer Bell in the HBO show.

The actor is set to join forces with Irish celebs Baz Ashmawy, rugby player Jamie Heaslip and 98FM DJ Steven Cooper for then exclusive launch of Halo: Reach, which became available on Xbox 360 from midnight last night.

Baz (33), who is currently co-hosting RTE reality series Do The Right Thing alongside Lucy Kennedy, explained how it was a dream for him to be invited to work alongside Elba.

"I actually couldn't believe it when I got the call. I'm a huge fan of The Wire so I'm going to be extremely star-struck when I meet Idris tonight," Baz told the Diary.

"I'll probably get all tongue tied. I just hope I don't keep calling him Stringer.

"I'm a bit of a gaming fan myself so I had no problem signing up to be part of the elite squad. I'm looking forward to taking on some randomers to play the new game and showing them what myself and the other lads are made of," he added.

The half-Egyptian presenter, who is currently looking for inspiration for the second season of his RTE TV show Baz's Extreme Worlds, which begins filming later this year, went on to explain how he's not looking forward to leaving his firstborn behind when he heads overseas to shoot the series.

Baz and his partner Tanya Evans welcomed their first child Hannah into the world last June.
