Will Melanie step back into limelight at film premiere?

HEARTBROKEN Melanie Verwoerd may put her grief over partner Gerry Ryan to one side to step back into the limelight.

The Herald can reveal the charity boss (41), who discovered Gerry's body in the bedroom of his southside home, is spearheading a big fundraiser this month.

Unicef Ireland is hosting a screening of Sex And The City 2 at Cineworld Parnell Street on May 29 to drum up funds.

All eyes will now be on brave Melanie to see if she'll attend the screening.

A spokesperson for the charity told the Herald it was too early to say.

She added that the 55 tickets to see the new blockbuster starring Sarah Jessica Parker were selling very well.

Melanie's attendance would mark her first public event since her former partner's passing.

Her decision to walk down the red carpet would be an especially difficult one, given that for the past two years Gerry has been her companion at most high-profile events.

He first went public with his romance with Ms Verwoerd in November 2008 when the pair stepped out together at the Ice Ball in the Four Seasons.

They also rubbed shoulders with stars including former James Bond actor Roger Moore at a gala dinner in the Burlington Hotel last year.

However, Gerry was the epitome of a true gent when it came to their relationship and always declined to say much about his other half out of respect to his former wife Morah.

She and Melanie have united in grief since the tragic star was found dead after suffering a suspected heart attack at his Leeson Street home on Friday, April 30.

The devastated mum of their five children Lottie (23), Rex (20), Bonnie (17), Elliot (14) and Babette (10) made a public show of unity at the star's funeral in Clontarf last Thursday.

During her eulogy dignified Morah, who was married to the broadcaster for 26 years, extended her deepest sympathies to Melanie and her two children.

The charity boss was pictured looking devastated at the star's funeral last week and, following the burial, joined his closest family and friends at a private function in the Shelbourne Hotel.
