We're no Ant and Dec – RTE's Aidan

RTE presenter Aidan Power is looking forward to one of his biggest TV jobs to date, as a 'poor man's Ant and Dec'.

The Dublin presenter will team up with former Westlife star Nicky Byrne in July for six-part music series The Hit, as RTE tries a male presenting double act.

In the series, hopefuls showcase their songs to two established music stars in the hope that they will pick their song.

The stars are under pressure to select one song they can turn into a hit.

While Aidan admits that both he and Nicky were surprised at the presenting match-up, they are looking forward to putting their own stamp on the show.

"We're not going to try be like Ant and Dec; we have to bring our own theme to it, whatever that is.

"Over the past few weeks we have been getting to know each other."

The boys will take over from Laura Whitmore who fronted last year's pilot, but Aidan says the duo are happy to share the spotlight.

The Hit will feature five-time Grammy-award winning producer Steve Lillywhite and Aidan is excited about working on a show that has an original Irish format.

"It's a huge show for us to be fronting and I think what sets it apart is its scale of the show.

"There's going to be an audience of thousands, it's going to be live on a Friday night. So it's big live television," said the Dubliner.
