Victory after call girl slur

Peaches Geldof has accepted substantial libel damages over a claim she was a prostitute who charged £5,000 (¤5,500) a night for sexual services.

The 20-year-old daughter of Bob Geldof and Paula Yates had brought proceedings at London's High Court over a front page story in the British Daily Star.

Her solicitor, Jonathan Coad, told Mr Justice Eady that Peaches initially went to Britain’s Press Complaints Commission about the item, “Peaches: Spend the night with me for £5k”.

Express Newspapers acknowledged the words complained of implied Ms Geldof “provided services of a personal sexual nature for the payment of a fee”.

The newspaper's solicitor, Zoe Norden, said: “The defendant accepts that there is no truth in the allegation made in the article, and apologises to the claimant for any distress caused by the publication.”

Mr Coad said Express Newspapers had paid Ms Geldof a substantial sum by way of damages and agreed to pay her legal costs.
