TV star Maura goes on date nights to keep romance alive

The Afternoon Show co-host Maura Derrane says she keeps the romance alive in her marriage by having regular date nights with politician husband John Deasy.

The TV presenter, originally from Inis Moir, says her return to Dublin to step into Blathnaid Ni Chofaigh's shoes on the popular show has not meant less quality time with her TD hubby of almost five years.

In fact, Maura insists the couple get to spend more time together than ever now, given that Fine Gael politician John is regularly in the capital to attend the Dail.

"I'm up here from Monday to Friday and then we're both at home in Waterford every weekend," Maura said.

"John is in Dublin for a good chunk of every week as well for meetings and the Dail, so we see each other all the time.

"The great thing with this job is that I'm off every evening, so we can go to the cinema or for dinner or go on whatever dates together when he's here."

In addition to presenting The Afternoon Show alongside Sheana Keane on a full-time basis, she has just launched a second series of hit TG4 reality show Feirm Factor, with the first episode airing on Thursday at 9.30pm.

This year's series has been increased from eight episodes to 10 and will see Maura introduce 12 new contestants as they battle it out for the chance to win a Land Rover Discovery.

Said Maura: "We filmed most of it in August and September, so thankfully the weather wasn't too bad this time and I only had to sit in a barn waiting for the rain to stop once."
