Calling all aspiring songbirds. The Old Mill Pub on the Old Bawn Road in Tallaght is staging a Search for a Star singing competition and is opening up the event to one and all.

Running over several months, the first round of auditions starts on Wednesday, with the final taking place on March 31.

And it's certainly worth your while making an effort to impress the judges -- there's a €5,000 prize up for grabs.

Entry forms are available from the Old Mill.

  • Celebrity wedding planner Tara Fay has just been given the nod for an international award.

The Irish organiser, who helped plan the nuptials of stars such as Andrea Roche and Westlife's Nicky Byrne, is over the moon after being shortlisted for the 2010 Gala Awards.

Held by the Special Events magazine, Tara and her Xena Productions in Blackrock will now be battling it out against contenders from San Francisco and Colorado to win the award in the Best Wedding Category, one of 34 different categories.

Tara told the Diary: "It's a huge honour for us and also for Ireland to be recognised like this.

"It shows that this country can produce world-class events.

"It's nice to have some good news for the Special Events industry."

Tara's not the only Irish contender this year though -- Euro Events, from Dun Laoghaire in Dublin, has also been nominated for its work on launching the BMW 7 series.

The two Irish companies won't have long to wait to see if they have been successful -- the Gala Awards will dished out on January 15 at a black-tie ceremony in New Orleans.

  • Last night's weather was certainly appropriate for a cool party in Dublin boutique Onboard.

Given that the Creation Arcade store stocks plenty of gear for winter sports, some of the thermal outfits would have come in handy for the guests heading home after the party.

Hosted by the store's stylish owners, sister Jilly and Amy Hamilton, revellers at their annual bash were provided with complimentary drinks and canapes, as well as plenty of giveaways on the evening.

  • Montreal crooners Islands are coming to these shores in a few months' time as part of a European tour.

The band, who released their third studio album Vapours in September, have confirmed they'll be performing at the Academy on March 30, with tickets on sale now from all the usual outlets.
