An Irish teenager is set to become a global TV star after bagging a spot in the semi-final of The Glee Project.
Damian McGinty is closer than ever to securing a role in hit musical comedy series Glee after making it through to the final four contestants of the TV reality competition.
The 18-year-old was one of 40,000 young performers to apply online for the chance to star alongside Corey Monteith and Lea Michele, who play high school sweethearts Finn and Rachel in the blockbuster show.
The Derry singer made a flying visit home this week to visit his family before the end of the contest.
"It's been kind of crazy, there has been a lot of travelling in a short time, it's been hard but a lot fun," he told the Herald. "I was in LA last week, I'm going back over on Sunday morning, we had a lot of red carpet events -- we went to the Glee movie première."
The talented teen has been steadily raising his profile in the States since he was 14, when he joined the all-male singing group Celtic Thunder which performed at the White House in 2009 for St Patrick's Day celebrations.
Despite his determination to break into the American entertainment industry, he admits that he never expected such a warm response.
"Over in America, it's really blown up, the past year has been crazy, I have over 100,000 fans on Facebook and Twitter now, I'm just pinching myself."
Regardless of the outcome of the competition, Damian revealed that he was considering moving permanently to the States.
"Because of what is happening over there [with the programme], there are a lot of offers coming in so [moving over] is a possibility."
