Secret is finally out as rugby star Leo prepares to tie the knot with Dairine

LEINSTER hero Leo Cullen will be following in the footsteps of team-mate Brian O'Driscoll by walking down the aisle next summer.

The Herald can reveal how the sports star has popped the question to stunning girlfriend Dairine Kennedy (30), with plans to get hitched next year.

The couple actually got engaged shortly after the nuptials of the Ireland captain and Amy Huberman last July, but they managed to keep it under wraps until now.

"Leo popped the question shortly after Brian's wedding, so he didn't take attention away from their big day," said an insider.

"Dairine was obviously over the moon and the pair are now busy planning their big day. It depends on his rugby schedule when it will be, as he'll be so busy with the various campaigns over the next couple of months.

Smitten

"It will probably be around the same time as Brian's wedding, sometime early in the summer, as that's the only real break that the players get."

The smitten couple hit the town over the weekend with some pals to celebrate Halloween in style at Krystle nightclub as they appear to be moving their relationship into the public eye a little more.

Heineken Cup hero Leo joined a host of fellow rugby pals, including Cian Healy, Paul O'Donoghue and Fergus McFadden, as they celebrated their narrow win over Edinburgh in the Magners League.

Despite his many triumphs on the pitch, Leo is one of the more low-key players on the Ireland and Leinster squad and rarely talks about his personal life.

The pair were also snapped together at Brian O'Driscoll's wedding, where glamorous Dairine turned heads in a purple, one-shoulder cocktail dress.

Wicklow native Leo and Dairine have been dating for several years and are one of the best-known couples in the top echelon of Irish rugby circles.

High-flyer

Dairine is something of a high-flyer in her own right, given her busy job as a senior sales manager in Google's head offices in Dublin.

A graduate of Smurfit Business School, where she received a Masters of Science degree in marketing practice, she also attended the same college as Leo, UCD, where the pair first met.
