Scarlett Johansson is taking on a challenging new role – motherhood.

The Lost in Translation star (29) is expecting her first child with French fiance Romain Dauriac and is about five months along.

She and her journalist partner are said to be thrilled at the prospect of welcoming the new arrival, who is due this summer.

PROPOSED

Dauriac went down on bended knee six months ago and proposed to the beautiful actress with a vintage Art Deco engagement ring.

Her most recent appearance was at the Iron Man 2 premiere on February 28, when she posed on the red carpet with her other half.

Although Johansson looked trim at the Cesar Film Awards in Paris, she was wearing a conservative trouser suit which could have hidden a baby bump.

And she is in no rush to walk down the aisle, given that she recently said she had not yet formalised any wedding plans. "I'm not doing any wedding planning,' she said. "I'm happy, he's my buddy."

She added that the big day was "far off" in her mind.

Johansson was previously married to Ryan Reynolds, but the pair split in 2011 after three years of marriage.

She has also spoken of her desire to become a mum.

"I would like to have my own family, that would be very nice," she said.

"They say it's never the right time and I'm sure that's true, but I think you have to plan it like anything else.

"At some point it's something I look forward to."

FORTUNATE

"I'm fortunate in that I have had a long career, 20 years, that has been very diverse.

"So, you know, picking a time to plan a family feels like something that I could do and not feel as though I was missing out."

Although Johansson did not attend Sunday's Oscars, her voice was heard in clips for her nominated film Her, which starred Joaquin Phoenix.
