ACTRESS Saoirse Ronan is taking a walk on the dark side.

The 19-year-old was sporting a gothic look last night as she attended the premiere of Now You See Me.

The Carlow native ditched her trademark honey locks in favour of the dark do for her latest film role How To Catch A Monster.

"I had to do it for the film but I really like it. I'd like to keep it black for a while but I think I'm going to have to go back blonde for films in the future," she told the Herald.

Saoirse hurried into the Savoy with her dad Paul and said she was enjoying some time off, adding: "I'm not shooting at the moment. It's great to be home and the weather has been great which is a bonus."

The young actress was the guest of honour at the premiere. Also in attendance was singer Brian Kennedy, magician Keith Barry, and celebrity trainer Paul Byrne.

Monaghan model-turned-actress Caitriona Balfe also stars in the film and said she was thrilled to be in Dublin for the event. She said: "I live in LA and happened to be back home for the screening so I was delighted."
