Rugby's newest WAG Kerri swaps scrums for sun in Marbella

Ireland's top rugby WAGs will line out to support their boys in Green in Paris this weekend, but the newest addition to the bunch, Kerri Ingram-Walpole won't be joining them.

The Herald can reveal that the 22-year-old beauty, girlfriend of Luke Fitzgerald, won't travel with the other wives and girlfriends and is instead planning a sun holiday with pals in Marbella.

Top beauties Amy Huberman, Susie Amy and Jessica O'Gara will all be in Paris to cheer on their other halves, Brian O'Driscoll, Rob Kearney and Ronan O'Gara.

On his weekly blog, the Irish captain Brian O'Driscoll said that the team are refreshed after a midweek rest and are ready to take on the French team.

And although winger Luke Fitzgerald is injured, he is expected to travel to France.

However, Kerri jetted off to the exclusive Spanish resort last weekend in a bid to escape the media storm surrounding her blossoming relationship with the Leinster player.

And while the Wicklow native admits to being a big rugby fan, she has decided not to join her other half -- who's currently relegated to the bench due to a knee injury -- to cheer on his team mates, in the hopes of keeping their romance out of the headlines.

"Kerri would have liked to have been in France for the game but she doesn't want to draw any further attention to their romance," said a source close to the Assets beauty.

"She was surprised by all the coverage it got in the papers and wanted to get away from it all for a few days, so she and a couple of friends went over to Marbella, where they are staying in a friend's villa.

"They will definitely be finding an Irish bar showing the game on TV so they can cheer Ireland on," they added.

Since news of their budding relationship broke, Kerri has remained tight-lipped about the issue.

"I don't really want to talk about it. I would like to keep my private life to myself," she said when contacted.

Kerri is a DIT Aungier Street student and currently works in promotions with Dublin's 98.

The brainy beauty was previously named Miss University 2008 and studied journalism and Spanish at college with an eye to moving into fashion journalism.

Fitzgerald, meanwhile, who was part of the British and Irish Lions tour to South Africa last year, is said to have turned to Kerri for support after being struck down by a serious knee injury last year.

The sportsman (22) admits that it's been a difficult period for him, in particular being forced to sit out the Six Nations games, but says he is slowly getting back to normality now.
