Rosanna dodges a Glenda showdown at the VIP Awards

IT WAS billed as the Handbags at Dusk showdown at the VIP Style Awards.

But the Herald can reveal that Rosanna Davison has pulled out at the last minute of the celebrity bash of the year, despite being nominated for one of the main gongs.

However, unable to resist the lure of a good photoshoot op, Rosanna will turn up for the red-carpet walk, but will then turn on her Manolo Blahnik heels and head for the airport, and another five-star getaway.

The former Miss World (25) who normally wouldn't miss the VIP Style Awards for the world, has apparently decided that she's bitten off more than she can chew with Glenda Gilson.

Rosie's withdrawal at the weekend comes after a week of huge attention over her trip away with diminutive developer Johnny Ronan (55).

Ronan whisked the woman, 30 years his junior, to Marrakesh within hours of a major on-street bust-up with Glenda Gilson, when he is alleged to have verbally abused the Xpose presenter.

While Ms Gilson (29) is said to be not particularly troubled by any blossoming friendship between Ms Davison and Johnny, pals say she has taken a dislike to her over the situation.

Social insiders had spent this week in a flurry of speculation about what would happen when Rosanna met Glenda for the first time since news of the model's trip to Morocco with Glenda's ex Johnny Ronan emerged.

The two have not spoken since it was revealed that the beauty queen and her pal flew to exotic Marrakesh with the developer, shortly after his 'Ranelagh Rumble' with his ex.

Ronan and Gilson were involved in a verbal row in the southside suburb after the recent Ireland-England rugby match.

But Rosanna today shot down suggestions that her decision to steer clear of the high-profile event had anything to do with trying to avoid a possible showdown with Glenda.

She exclusively told the Herald: "I can only do the red-carpet pics as I've to catch a flight to London on Friday evening for a few days of skiing which has been planned since early January."

And she said there would be "no point" in bringing along her other half Wes Quirke as her date to the bash in the Shelbourne Hotel, given that she would only be staying a short while. Yet she has insisted that all is still well between 'Wesanna' and has repeatedly laughed off suggestions that the couple of three years are on the rocks.

She even revealed how Wes has confirmed that he's coming to Marrakesh with her and her parents next month as they put the past week's dramas behind them.

The heir to the Quirkey's Emporium chain has declined to comment in the wake of the revelations about his girlfriend's impulsive trip to Morocco.

The well-known socialite hit the headlines last week after it emerged that she had flown to north Africa for a fun-filled two-day trip with multi-millionaire Johnny.

Their holiday came just 24 hours after his on-street bust-up with Xpose presenter Glenda in Ranelagh and she said it was a "spur of the moment" thing.

However, Rosanna has insisted that she knew nothing about the incident and has apologised to the Castleknock beauty if she upset her.

"I really like Glenda. Hopefully we can continue to be friends. I think it will be okay. Hopefully, she will understand it was exaggerated to be more than it is," she said

She was also at pains to point out that she and a good pal from college shared a twin room the exclusive La Mamounia hotel and there was no romantic connection with the Treasury Holdings boss.

"We had an excellent time over there. I would do it again. As I said, it was total spur of the moment. It was Sunday afternoon drinking gone crazy," she said.
