Rising star: Another honour for our Saoirse

Oscar-nominee Saoirse Ronan is to be honoured at a major pre-Oscars award ceremony in recognition of her rising talent.

The Co Carlow teenager, shortlisted in 2008 for an Academy Award for Atonement, will receive the accolade at the US-Ireland Alliance's Oscar Wilde: Honouring the Irish in Film, in March.

The talented teenager will be presented with the Wilde Card award at the gala function in Los Angeles, just days before the glitzy Oscar ceremony.

The Northern Irish cinematographer Seamus McGarvey will also be honoured for his achievements behind the camera, having been involved in a host of Hollywood blockbusters.
