Revealed -- Rose of Tralee is ideal role for Corrie's Becky

CORRIE star Katherine Kelly has just admitted her secret dream role - being crowned the Rose of Tralee.

The actress, who plays Becky in the popular soap, grew up spending her summers in her father's native Kerry and glued to the television set every August to see who would be named the winner.

"Any opportunity I get I am in Ireland. I have been coming over to Ireland all my life. My dad John is from Kerry. I have an Irish passport and we visit Kerry a lot.

"I remember when we were on our holidays in Gneeveguilla over with my cousins watching the Rose of Tralee. And I asked my dad did he think I could be Rose one day and when he said I could because of my Irish background, it was all I wanted to do."

The actress will be jetting over to our shores for the Walkers TVNow Awards on Saturday night, and is bringing a memorable date to this year's ceremony -- her sister.

"My dad came to the awards with me last year, this time around I'm bringing my little sister Gracie so it should be fun.

"Last year Dad was overwhelmed when I dedicated the awards I won --Best Actress and Best Soap Couple with Simon Gregson - to my late grandad.

"He was a Roscommon man and his favourite programme was Coronation Street. Even though I grew up in England and my mum is a Yorkshire girl, we've always been a very Irish family."

This year, Katherine (30) has been nominated for Best Actress yet again and the McDonald's are up for Best Soap Family.

The star added that she would love to start her own family one day, but needs to find the right man first and is hoping Keith Duffy will make good on his promise to find her a stellar Irishman.

"Keith Duffy keeps promising me that he's going to find me an Irishman and that makes my daddy very happy," she said. "We're delighted to have Keith back on the cast. He's adored by everyone."
