Model Cara Spillane is on a mission to prove she's more than just a bubbly blonde.
"A lot of people have that preconception that when it comes to Irish models there's nothing going on between the ears," she told the Diary.
"When you say you're a model you can see people switch off a little bit.
"I think some people are quick to dismiss models and kind of assume they aren't that smart.
"But in Ireland that isn't the case – most of the girls have been to college and are really articulate. I have a degree and speak four languages so I'd like to think I'm not that dumb," she laughed.
Cara wants to follow her dad, sports legend Pat Spillane, into the world of TV, but is more interested in grilling politicians than sports punditry.
"I am a total news nut, I love reading the papers and staying on top of current affairs. I'm a current affairs junkie," she said.
So would she like to be the new Miriam?
"I don't know about that but I love that type of programme where there's lots of debate and discussion. I think I could hold my own," she said.
Cara studied law at UCC and is currently living in the Rebel County.
"I love it down here; I have a great group of friends and Cork is an amazing city."
"I'm working as a maitre d' in the Electric which is a really cool spot," she said.
Cara is planning on moving up to the big smoke this year.
"I really love my job but it's not what I want to do full time. I want to move into TV and presenting," she said.
"So in 2014 I'll definitely be moving up to Dublin, it's a real media hub and where I think I have to be to get the ball rolling work-wise."
"I know TV can be a dog-eat-dog world and a lot of people want to get into it but I had this lightbulb eureka moment where I knew that's what I wanted to do. I'm going to give it my best shot.
"I've already met with some production companies and there are a few things in the pipeline so fingers crossed."
Last year Cara split from her long-term boyfriend and is liking the single life.
"I'm still single and I'm enjoying it. It's been nice being on my own for a bit but I'm open to a relationship if the right guy came along. Who knows?"
The chatty model says she has a good feeling about 2014.
"I think it's going to be a good year. I want to travel and work and see the world."
