IT'S a case of 'the show must go on' for TV3's Alan Hughes and partner Karl Broderick (inset right), who both ended up in hospital last weekend.
The two personalities are busy preparing for the opening night of their annual Cheerios panto Beauty and the Beast at the Tivoli Theatre on December 14.
But there was drama behind the scenes after they had to be brought to separate hospitals when Karl had a blood poisoning scare and Alan had a fall.
Alan explained: "The whole country may be covered with ice and snow but I ended up falling over a spacehopper in the Ireland AM studio on Friday and I crushed a ligament in my knee so I ended up having to go up to the Hermitage. I've been having various MRIs and X-rays, it's absolutely killing me.
"Then Karl was saying he didn't feel great so a friend brought him up to Beaumont Hospital. Someone stood on his foot and he must have had an open cut as it ended up getting infected and literally blew up yesterday.
"The doctors said he was very lucky he had it treated when he did otherwise it would have gone through his whole blood stream, but they managed to contain it."
As if all that wasn't enough, Alan also revealed how their panto set is still out in Blessington, Co Wicklow, and they have been unable to bring it into Dublin on account of the bad weather.
The panto stars Brian Dowling, Michele McGrath and Alan as Sammy Sausages, and will feature guest appearances from Derek Mooney, Brian Kennedy, Brian Ormond and Pippa O'Connor.
