Now Cowell eyes Fergie as US X Factor judge

Simon Cowell admits Black Eyed Peas singer Fergie has been discussed as a possible judge for the US debut of The X Factor.

The music mogul is also adding additional audition venues to widen the talent pool bidding to get selected for the show.

He has set up audition studios in Nashville, Tennessee; Anchorage, Alaska; Kansas City, Kansas; and Denver throughout April.

"It probably isn't as fun as attending an open audition, but it is your chance to be seen and heard and I'm going to try to put these in as many cities as possible," the former American Idol judge said.

Cowell will be joined on the judges' panel by Antonio "LA" Reid, former chairman of Island Def Jam Music, when the show premieres in September.

The X Factor is based on Cowell's British-born hit series and debuting on Fox this autumn. At stake is a $5m recording contract.

The decision has not been made about who the third judge will be, but Cowell said that Fergie has come up in discussions.

"Her name was put forward but, like with a lot of other people we've spoken to, we have to check out everyone's availability," he said.
