Nicky on a high note as he pens song in solo move

HE HAS just signed up to front a TV show but former Westlife star Nicky Byrne is harbouring secret plans to go solo.

The ex-popstar has spent several days penning a new music track in the UK, the Herald can reveal.

From covering for Ryan Tubridy on 2fm to co-hosting the summer's big music show The Hit, Byrne is hot property right now.

But the 34-year-old, who will welcome his third child with wife Georgina later this year, has found time to put pen to paper on a potential future hit of his own.

"I was over in the UK for two days songwriting for a particular project, which went far greater than I could have imagined," Nicky said.

"Even if it does nothing, it's a song that somebody else could do for something else, it's that good – I'm very happy with it."

And Nicky could even be following in the footsteps of former band mate Shane Filan by adding his own vocals to the track.

"Depending on how it goes, if they're into it, I'd say I'll probably do it myself or duet.

"It would be a female duet, I would imagine, but it's very early days," he added.
