Nicky instantly settles into the 2fm hot seat

IT'S a case of out with the old and in with the new for 2fm's latest signing Nicky Byrne.

While he has promised to steer clear of playing any Westlife songs in the slot he took over yesterday, he has vowed to give some air time to his bandmates' new music.

There were few first-day nerves for the Dubliner as he slipped into his role as DJ yesterday morning.

And his proud wife Georgina (34) said he will be trying to support Shane Filan and Kian Egan in their solo endeavours, given that both have released their own material.

Nicky has also been secretly working on a new solo album of his own and has already been laying down a few tracks.

"I'm sure he'll play Shane and Kian's tracks and also one of his own tracks one day soon – they're fab," said Georgina.

She added that Nicky was a "little nervous" about starting his own show, but was also "very excited".

ENJOYING

Fitness trainer Georgina, who recently gave birth to the couple's third child, a girl named Gia, said: "He was really looking forward to getting started on the radio.

"It sounded like he was really enjoying it too. I think it will be a great, fun show and easy listening."

While he did not play any special requests for his other half, Nicky did give a shout-out to their six-year-old twin boys, Rocco and Jay. He made sure to time it for when they were out of school so they could hear it.

Nicky has been joined on his 11am to 2pm slot by DJ Jenny Greene, and the show promises a mixture of live music and celebrity guests.

One of the guests on the first programme was X Factor host Dermot O'Leary in a showbiz coup for Nicky.

He has replaced Colm Hayes in the slot as part of a massive shake-up at the RTE station.

Nicky has been joined by fellow newcomers Bernard O'Shea, Keith Walsh and Jennifer Maguire who will take over the weekday morning slot from 7am to 9am.
