Niall urged me to pop question, says 1D star's brother

IT WAS a case of love across the shop counter for Niall Horan's older brother Greg who announced this week that he is engaged.

The Herald can reveal that the 24- year-old Mullingar man -- who is the older brother of the One Direction singer -- first laid his eyes on fiancee Denise at his place of work.

"She was a customer in the shop where I work. I work in Spar and she was always coming in," Greg told the Herald. "We know each other years but we only started going out together earlier this year."

And Greg says he knew that Denise was the woman for him the moment he laid eyes on her and proposed after a whirlwind relationship.

And it was his younger brother Niall who encouraged him to pop the question.

"I knew she was the one all along if I'm honest. Even Niall told me 'marry her, you fool!'"

"We got engaged a few weeks back. Obviously it was romantic -- it was an engagement after all," he joked. "But I don't want to tell everyone about it, it was very romantic though."

Greg said that he told family and friends the news a few weeks ago and no one was happier to hear that he had finally decided to settle down than 19-year-old Niall.

"We only broke the news quietly to family and friends a couple of weeks ago. Niall was delighted. He thinks the world of Denise so he was delighted for us. When he met her he hugged her so I knew he liked her."

Greg said he introduced Denise to the other 1D lads backstage at the Late, Late show two weeks ago.

And the Mullingar native said he would love if the boys could make it to the wedding, as he plans to ask Niall to be his best man on his big day.

"Of course I want him to be my best man, hopefully he'll be able to do it what with work and all," Greg said. "He's my only brother so I want him to be my best man."

But protective Greg said he didn't want to reveal his fiance's last name in order to protect her from the limelight. "I don't want her getting hassle. She's a local girl."

Greg and Denise are fairly laid- back and have yet to decide a venue or date for the big day. "I haven't a clue when or where it will take place," he said.

"But we're really happy and looking forward to the wedding."
