Top model Emma Waldron has told how guys in New York see nothing wrong with walking up to a woman on the street and asking her out.

The 25-year-old has opened up about the dating scene in the US where she has just spent two-and-a-half months.

The former Miss Ireland plans to return to US in the next few weeks once her work visa is in order and stay there for three years. She says her career is her number one priority.

"But I have had some great experiences over there and have met some really lovely, successful, outgoing men," Emma said.

"I have had some great dates. At first I did not know if I was coming or going, but I have made some really close friends from the men I have met. The guys in New York are very handsome, just like the girls.

"When they like you they are more vocal about it than in Ireland. Men here almost feel afraid to say anything to women.

"Their culture is different. They see nothing wrong with telling a woman she is beautiful and then walking off.

"They approach you in the street and ask you for a drink, ask for your number or ask you for a date.

"It was a culture shock at the start. I would say ''thank you very much, but no'," said Emma who is from Kildare.
