New York fashion week is the highlight of my year – Karen

SHE'LL be mixing with some of the most stylish people in the world and Karen Koster is going all out to look the part for New York Fashion Week.

The 'Xpose' host is packing her bags to jet over to the Big Apple next month, to cover previews of latest clothing collections and sneak peeks at what we'll all be wearing come winter.

The 34-year-old will get to watch some of the top designers' catwalk shows for Fall/Winter 2014 and has also managed to get access backstage to interview a string of well-known faces, make-up artists and stylists.

"It's a crazy week, it takes place February 6 to 13 and we're going over for a full four days, so I can't wait – it's one of the best events to get to work at and a highlight of my year," Karen told the Diary.

"It'll just be me and a camera man. We went over last time with Maybelline as well – they're one of the major sponsors, so it had plenty of perks."

The TV3 anchor said that having a behind-the-scenes pass is like gold dust during fashion week – which will be teeming with A-list celebrities such as Victoria Beckham and Gwyneth Paltrow – and insisted she wants to look her best while rubbing shoulders with the who's who of the industry.

But instead of towering heels and being a slave to the latest trends, Karen insisted she's opting for chic and comfortable.

"It's a huge buzz and the people-watching is incredible, so you can't help getting sucked into it all. But it's all go, an absolute blast running from show to show, and you want to look right while also being comfy," she said.

"You do feel pressure in the wardrobe stakes, so Oasis will be dressing me for the week and this time I am quite willing to be out of my comfort zone, even though black is definitely my go-to colour.

"I'm not getting too caught up in it either, I'm a good packer – just one pair of heels will do me for the week," she said.

The bubbly blonde revealed she'll be getting her hair cut and coloured as well as getting her spray tan and a set of eye lashes done before flying over.

But there's one thing she likes to leave for when she arrives:

"I love going for a manicure when I'm there, they do it so well."

And she's not worried about upping her fitness regime before being surrounded by stick thin model types.

"It's this other worldly thin over there, anyway I won't get time to hit the gym," she said.
